Our Veterinary Technicians (Colorado Provisional or Registered) provide clinical and administrative support for the Veterinary Services Department. Schedules are generally full time (40 hours per week), include weekend shifts, and are subject to change according to business need. Shift hours generally range from 7am to 7pm. Emergency hours may be implemented during emergency situations. Overtime will be required as needed. Holidays, evenings and weekend work required as needed. Flexibility is preferred.

NOTE: Certification/Registration with the State of Colorado is a requirement for this job. The Organization will reimburse provisional employees for the cost of 1 VTNE and 1 Colorado license registration.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Assists with the surgical program including induction and intubation of surgery patients, monitoring of patients from induction through recovery, preparation of supplies and instruments, restraint of animals, and cleaning of the surgery suite
• Maintains accurate computer and paper records for medications and treatments; enters data into animal shelter software database regarding animal care, medication, surgeries, and follow up; runs reports as necessary
• Performs dental prophy and radiographs, assists veterinarians in dentistry as needed
• Performs physical exams on animals as part of the animal intake process
• Performs basic animal medical assessment and triage as directed
• Administers treatment/medications to shelter animals and completes minor procedures such as suture removal
• Prepares, implements and interprets basic diagnostic tests, such as fecal flotation, urinalysis, point-of-care tests and cytology. Submits tests to laboratory as needed
• Performs euthanasia as assigned
• Assists with care of animals including by cleaning cages, feeding, and other tasks as necessary
• Assists with supervising and basic training of associated volunteers and students
• Performs duties such as laundry, cleaning instruments, and other tasks
• Generally works alone, without other Veterinary Services staff, during assigned weekend shifts
• Drives on behalf of the Organization on occasion
• Maintains solid attendance and punctuality
• Adhere to the Standards of Professional Conduct

Job Qualifications:

Education/Experience: Graduate of accredited Veterinary Technician school plus one year of relevant technician or applicable experience plus currently registered with the State of Colorado. Must be proficient with intubation, IV catheter placement and IV injection techniques. Direct animal care and handling experience is required: restraining animals, cleaning cages, administering medication, etc. Must be experienced with, and comfortable, monitoring and quickly responding to anesthesia and assisting surgeon as necessary. Experience maintaining computerized medical records; Chameleon software, or other animal shelter software, experience preferred. Experience with dentals and dental radiology a plus. Must be at least 21 years of age (required for insurance purposes). Proven bilingual English/Spanish reading, writing, understanding and speaking a plus and includes a wage premium.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Strong verbal and written communication skills required. Detail-oriented and able to exercise good judgment when dealing with animal-related concerns. Knowledge of basic animal health care; knowledge of animal breeds and colors. Proven emotional intelligence, integrity and work ethic skills required. Able to work both independently and in a team setting. Able to remain calm and level-headed in a sometimes stressful and emotional work environment. Able to use sound judgment when dealing with confidential information. Able to multi-task and prioritize job duties in a busy and constantly changing work environment. Able to work overtime as needed and during emergency situations.

Other: Valid Colorado Driver’s License and insurable driving record; have and maintain personal driving insurance meeting Colorado standards. Willing to be rabies vaccinated and have intermittent titer testing.

Job Description
As an Overnight Veterinary Technician in our Emergency/ICU department, you will play a crucial role in the care and treatment of critically ill and emergency patients. Under the supervision of specialists, emergency doctors, and department leads, you will provide essential triage, nursing, and monitoring, ensuring our patients receive the highest quality care throughout their stay.

Responsibilities

• Patient Care: Triage and manage emergency calls and walk-ins, conduct patient assessments, and provide comprehensive nursing care.
• Medical Procedures: Perform venipuncture, place catheters, and execute emergency procedures such as airway management and oxygen administration.

Qualifications

• Must be CVT, LVT, RVT, or PVT certified in Colorado.
• Experience: Two years in emergency/critical care preferred.

• On-Call Requirement: One shift every 4 weeks after training completion.

The ASPCA Animal Hospital (AAH) is designed to provide life-saving care and relieve suffering for animal victims of cruelty and neglect who come to us through internal partners (our own ASPCA adoption center, kitten nursery, and community advocate team) and external partners (NYPD and other NYC organizations).  Additionally, we provide subsidized care exclusively for animals whose owners are experiencing financial challenges and could not otherwise afford medical care for their pet.

Housekeeping and Maintenance (20%)

• Clean and disinfect kennels, equipment, and facility while utilizing appropriate PPE.
• Follow all departmental PPE and cleaning protocols

• Follow all protocols put forth by Occupational Safety and Health Administration.
• Follow all written and verbally communicated departmental Standard Operating Procedures.
• Take inventory and stock supplies as needed.
• Assist in keeping supplies stocked by noting when supplies are running low in all departments.
• Make certain entire hospital including treatment, surgery, exam rooms and kennels are kept extremely clean through the day.

Compensation and Benefits:

Starting pay for the successful applicant will depend on a variety of factors, including but not limited to education, training, experience, location, business needs, internal equity, market demands or budgeted amount for the role. The target hiring range is for new hire offers only, and staff compensation may increase beyond the maximum hiring range based on performance over time. The maximum of the hiring range is reserved for candidates with the highest qualifications and relevant experience. The expected hiring salary range for this role is set forth below and may be modified in the future.

Minimum Qualifications:

Veterinary Technician I:

• An associate’s degree from an accredited college or university in veterinary/animal health technology.
• One year of experience caring for, feeding, or providing health care for animals in a veterinary laboratory, breeding, or boarding facility.
• Veterinary technician license or provisional registration with Colorado Department of Regulatory Affairs (DORA).
  •  Veterinary technician students, new graduates, or others who intend to acquire licensure in the 1st year of employment are eligible as well. If unlicensed, the applicant will be brought in as a veterinary technician assistant and moved to a veterinary technician I when licensure is acquired.
