Job Description: Veterinary Technician Student (Temporary Position)
Position: Veterinary Technician Student
Location: Denver, CO, near Washington Park
Hours: 2 hours per day (Flexible, to be determined)
Pay: $22 – $25 per hour
Duration: Temporary, starting immediately
About the Position:
We are seeking compassionate and dedicated veterinary technician students to assist in the daily care of Ophelia, a 10.5-year-old female Saint Bernard, who is currently battling canine osteosarcoma. Ophelia is receiving advanced veterinary care, including the Elias immunotherapy protocol, and is under the supervision of a team of veterinarians at CSU and various specialists around the city.
Despite her challenging condition, Ophelia remains alert and happy, though she requires assistance due to the loss of her hind legs and the amputation of one of her front limbs. This unique and emotionally complex situation offers a valuable learning experience for students pursuing a career in veterinary medicine.
This position requires lifting Ophelia, who weighs 130 pounds.
Responsibilities:
- Provide daily care and assistance to Ophelia, focusing on her comfort and well-being.
- Assist Ophelia with gentle support to safely move in and out of the house for her daily bathroom needs.
- Assist with mobility, feeding, hydration, and general care, given her physical limitations.
- Support Ophelia’s owner, Trent, in making informed decisions about her care, with a focus on maintaining her quality of life.
Qualifications:
- Currently enrolled in a Veterinary Technician program or similar.
- Preferred strong interest in canine care, particularly in oncology and palliative care.
- Compassionate, patient, and attentive to the needs of both the pet and her owner.
- Ability to handle emotionally challenging situations with professionalism and empathy.
- Experience with large breeds is a plus, though not required.
Why This Role Matters:
This position offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience with advanced veterinary treatments and the complexities of long-term care for a beloved pet with a serious condition. As part of this role, you will not only be providing essential care to Ophelia but also contributing to the understanding and application of future-focused treatments in veterinary medicine.
If you are a student eager to learn and make a meaningful impact in the field, this is an invaluable opportunity. Your involvement will help shape the future of veterinary care and offer comfort to a family navigating this difficult time.
To Apply:
Please send a brief statement of interest to Trent at mtrani_2000@yahoo.com. Applications will be reviewed immediately, and the position will start immediately.
Thank you for considering this opportunity to make a difference in Ophelia’s life and to further your own education in veterinary care.
