VCA MidWest Veterinary Referral & Emergency Center is an AAHA-accredited specialty and emergency/critical care hospital in friendly Omaha, Nebraska—the only such hospital in the state. We have been a leader in small animal specialty medicine for the last decade! Our team includes board-certified specialists in Internal Medicine, Surgery, Emergency and Critical Care, Cardiology, and Diagnostic Imaging. Our Emergency and Critical Care Department operates 24/7/365. All of our doctors enjoy teaching, and love to collaborate to provide stellar patient care and client service.
We are currently undergoing an exciting expansion project. Our new 17,000+ sq. ft. facility will feature 11 exam rooms, 4 operating theaters, a dedicated ICU with telemetry and long-term mechanical ventilation capabilities, and comprehensive in-house laboratory equipment. We also have ultrasonography, video rigid and flexible endoscopy, Stryker laparoscopy/arthroscopy tower, Imex fixator system, Synthes plating system, Ligasure, TA stapler, digital radiography, fluoroscopy, helical computed tomograph (CT), and on-site magnetic resonance imaging(MRI).
Our hospital has an educational division called the Midwest Veterinary Advanced Learning Institute (MAVLI). Through MAVLI we provide CE events, lunch and learns, externships, internships, technician development programs, and a clinical studies program.

Heather is the Hospital Administrator for VCA MidWest Veterinary Referral & Emergency Center. She oversees hospital operations, finances, human resources, facilities management and marketing. Her primary focus is quality patient care and excellent client service. Prior to joining VCA MidWest Heather was the Hospital Manager at VCA Animal Medical Center of Omaha. Heather has had an extensive career working in in practice management, retail management, and as a management consultant. She has also worked for a U.S. Senator and a Congressman. As a consultant Heather has consulted with in the automotive, financial services, healthcare, manufacturing, medical, non-profit, and retail industries, as well as clients in government and education. Heather received her bachelor\'s degree in business leadership (BLD) and her Master\'s degree in Organizational Leadership (ML) from the College of St. Mary in Omaha, Nebraska. She has published several research studies on \"Leadership Skills That Lead to Financial Success in the Retail Industry,\" \"Generations and Interactions in the Workplace,\" and \"Key Components That Lead to the Success of At-Risk Students.\" Additionally, Heather has a certificate in Animal Behavior. Heather has been a member of DECA, an international association for marketing students, and has served on the board of directors and as chairperson of the Business Partnership Network. She received recognition as a DECA Award of Merit recipient in 2005 and as an Outstanding Business Partner in 2006. She has also been a member of the Superintendent\'s Advisory Committee for Millard Public Schools. In 2008, Heather was named a Rising Star for her strong performance and ability to create transformational relationships with clients. Heather is a lifetime member of the Girl Scouts having earned both her Gold and Silver award as well as being named 2001 Outstanding Volunteer. Heather has two Border Collies, Victotia (Tori) and Dalwhinnie (Whinnie). Heather is also a classically trained soprano and has performed at Carnegie Hall and at the Vatican in Rome. In 2014 Heather became one of the first Americans to sing in the Sistine Chapel at the Vatican. When she is not rehearsing for her next performance she can be found out and about with her Border Collies.
