Job Description
Zoology Foundation is a 501C3 animal sanctuary in Larkspur, Colorado. Founded in 2009, Zoology is home to approximately 80 animals ranging from a variety of ectotherms, cats, rabbits, sheep, goats, llamas, alpacas, chickens, and 2 camels. We do not adopt our animals out and we do not have a wildlife rehabilitation license. We also are USDA regulated. Additionally, we host several Adults with Disabilities programs every week.
We are hiring for a full-time position, approximately 40 hours/week, days of the week TBD but weekends are required. The position is to provide care and maintain the health and welfare of the animals. This includes daily feeding, cleaning, medication administration, enrichment, record keeping, restraint (species appropriate), herdsmanship, animal training, transportation of animals with Zoology vehicles. maintenance of USDA standards, etc. While not required, experience with farm animals holds high value. We do not have a hospital or veterinarian on site and this is not a veterinary technician job per-se, your knowledge and skills will be valued. Typically, if an animal needs more than care that can be provided in the field, it will be transferred to an outside hospital. We have curated very strong relationships with a number of veterinarians.
Candidates should be prepared to work outside, be thorough and flexible (because no day is ever the same), have strong social skills, and a sense of humor! We are a small staff and like to have fun because we also work hard! This position would be perfect for a technician or assistant that no longer wants to work in practice but doesn’t want to leave the animal industry.
